Justin: In the Feast of Being Able to. Amen.

I am the Walrus

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all.
‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.

Between 48% – 50% of all working Americans are now paying zero income tax, while the top 10% of all income earners in America pay 69.94% of all income tax paid. [See Here, Here, Here] Note: The bottom 40% of wage earners in the United States not only don’t pay income tax, they make money back on the income tax code from the money the others pay.

Currently taxes are as low as they have been in decades. But how can we call it ‘low’ forcibly taking 10% or 20% of what someone has earned away from them? Only relatively speaking to past tax rates… to what we have become hardened to paying. Whereas our founders indicated that 5% was a huge amount to force a person to give from their money, we have been robbed for so long that we are jaded. 5% would be almost like getting off scot-free!

Where is the line between mandatory contribution and confiscatory taxing? Between demanding member dues for the administration of the group, and stealing at gun point?
