The Art of Art

“…For art is the expression of the soul of the common man, and professional artists are not common men.”

Wallace Stevens is a good example of the outpourings of a normal man as refined art. He spent most of his adult life working for the Hartford insurance company. There’s a story I’ve heard told of a publisher who entered the Hartford corporate facility and approached the secretary. “I’d like to speak to Mr. Stevens, the poet.”
The secretary responded, “Excuse me?”
“The poet, Wallace Stevens?”
She was puzzled. “You mean the attorney, Wallace Stevens?”
She had no idea he was a reknown poet.

People are that way about me sometimes when they find out that I’m a reknown bass fisherman ninja poet.
